Care with learning

Antibiotics have saved millions of lives, but we have taken them for granted. We need concerted action to prevent our world from going back to the pre-antibiotic era.

How it all started

In May 2004, individuals from all continents and from a diverse range of backgrounds gathered at the Dag Hammarskjöld Centre in Uppsala to explore why discussions held so far on antibiotic resistance have not catalyzed needed action. ReAct was created to support the linkage of networks, individuals and institutions.

That meeting was organised by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation, The Division of International health (IHCAR),Karolinska Institutet and Strama (The Swedish Strategic Programme Against Antibiotic Resistance).

Another meeting in September 2005
aimed to take thinking and action further.

Around 60 people from 23 countries in
Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas
were gathered.

The expertise and experience included
community networks, communication,
science and politics.
