Prevent infection  –  Health care

Set up a program

A five step management process is presented here to guide health care facilities to begin or strengthen their work in infection prevention and control.

The process can be applied anywhere however, interventions should always be adapted to local setting. A variety of examples are provided to showcase the diverse ways to prevent and control infection. Guidelines set by national-level authorities may exist and when possible should be consulted and incorporated into programs at the facility level. Read through all the steps for a comprehensive view of the work that lies ahead: Engage, Assess, Plan, Implement and Evaluate. Ideally, the cycle should be continuously worked through, but the Toolbox can also be used to pick and choose individual materials that best fit your needs.
