On November 18th, the Lancet released a special series with five articles that address some of the key question surrounding the need to secure access to antibiotics, whilst preserving their effectiveness. From ReAct, Professor Anthony So, Doctor Anna Zorzet and Doctor Jasper Littmann were invited to contribute to two of these articles.
The Lancet series brings together some of the world-leading academics and policy makers in the field of antimicrobial resistance, and provides much needed input for the discussion on how to move the policy agenda forward. The five articles discuss the expansion of access to antibiotics, the drivers of antimicrobial resistance, the specific challenges in low- and middle-income countries, the evidence base for national policies, and the scope for international cooperation to better respond to antimicrobial resistance.
