ReAct is proud to announce its participation in the just released Independent Television News (ITN) Business program, Defending Our Health: Unravelling Antimicrobial Resistance, which aims to address the urgent global threat of antibiotic resistance. The program was released the day before the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR in New York on September 26th, underscoring the need for a unified global response.
The program, produced by Independent Television News (ITN) Business, delves into the escalating global crisis of antibiotic resistance, featuring expert insights and showcasing pioneering efforts to safeguard the effectiveness of life-saving antibiotics. The program features key industry and news-style reports along with sponsored editorial profiles. As antibiotic resistance continues to threaten the ability to treat infections, it disproportionately impacts vulnerable populations, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where access to quality healthcare is limited.
Filmed in Matero community, Lusaka, Zambia
As part of the program, ReAct filmed in the Matero community of Lusaka, Zambia, where the challenges of combating antibiotic resistance are felt firsthand. The film highlights the lived experiences of community members and healthcare workers, illustrating how limited access to antibiotics and overuse of these medicines affects the health and livelihoods of vulnerable populations.
Ensure equitable access to antibiotics
ReAct’s contribution to the program emphasizes the urgent need to ensure equitable access to antibiotics, placing equity at the heart of the global response to antibiotic resistance. This includes advocating for sustainable solutions that not only combat the misuse and overuse of antibiotics but also promote access to effective treatments for all, regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic location. The program also highlights ReAct’s partnerships with governments, healthcare organizations, and communities working towards innovative, inclusive approaches to tackling this health crisis.
“Addressing antibiotic resistance requires not only improving access to medicines, but also educating communities on the responsible use of antibiotics. Through our collaboration with ITN Business, we highlight the need for global solutions that prioritize both awareness and access, ensuring that all populations, regardless of geographical location and especially the most vulnerable, can benefit from life-saving antibiotics.”
says Julian Nyamupachitu, Director operations and administration, ReAct Africa
