ReAct Asia Pacific has been announced as one of the winners of the esteemed Trinity Challenge’s AMR Youth Funding Competition for 2025. The award recognizes ReAct Asia Pacific's innovative proposal, titled “From Campus to Farms: Empowering Biosecurity Champions,” which aims to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through grassroots interventions in agriculture.

By leveraging the untapped potential of veterinary undergraduate students, RAP seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in farm-level biosecurity. The project will launch in Kerala, India, in partnership with the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), renowned for its leadership in veterinary sciences.

The “Campus to Farm” initiative focuses on reducing the misuse of antibiotics in agriculture—a significant contributor to rising AMR levels worldwide. Through hands-on demonstrations, interactive workshops, and long-term mentorship programs, veterinary students will collaborate directly with local farmers to identify biosecurity gaps and co-design feasible solutions tailored to specific farm needs. These efforts will not only enhance biosecurity practices but also foster lasting behavioural changes among farming communities.

A key highlight of the project is its emphasis on sustainability. In addition to immediate interventions, students will contribute to creating a replicable training module that can be integrated into veterinary curricula. This ensures that future generations of veterinarians are equipped with the skills needed to tackle AMR effectively.

Over six months, RAP will provide technical support, monitoring frameworks, and mentorship to ensure seamless implementation and measurable outcomes. By empowering youth and farmers to co-lead solutions, the project aims to create sustainable, community-driven pathways to curb AMR at its source.

About the Trinity Challenge

The Trinity Challenge AMR Youth Funding Competition attracted over 80 applications from 35 countries in Latin America & Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The competition was focused on solutions that promote biosecurity prevention measures – including vaccination, nutrition, and good animal care – to reduce the need for antibiotics.

This year’s awards ceremony highlighted ground breaking ideas spanning various domains, including digital health technologies, community engagement models, and sustainable agricultural practices. Among the notable winners were initiatives targeting mental health awareness in urban settings, climate-resilient healthcare systems, and equitable vaccine distribution frameworks.

The Trinity Challenge is an internationally recognized competition that brings together innovators, researchers, and organizations to develop data-driven solutions addressing pressing global health issues. Founded on the principle of fostering collaboration between diverse sectors, the challenge seeks to pre-empt future pandemics and mitigate existing public health threats like AMR. Each year, the competition invites proposals from around the world, with a particular focus on projects led by young changemakers who can drive transformative change.
