Are you our new Director for ReAct Latin America?

ReAct – Action on Antibiotic Resistance is a global network working to catalyze global, national and local action on antibiotic resistance. Founded in 2005, ReAct was one of the first actors to articulate the complex nature of antibiotic resistance and its drivers, and to promote a holistic approach to engaging all of society in tackling this global health threat. ReAct is now looking for a visionary and experienced director to lead the work of the ReAct Latin America node.

ReAct has a long history working with academia translating science into policy, as well as working in low- and middle-income countries through engaging local communities, health care sector as well as other parts of society in piloting local solutions.

ReAct address antibiotic resistance from a rights-based perspective, advocate for global solutions and interventions that are effective and implementable in resource scarce contexts – to ensure that everyone everywhere have access to effective antibiotics.

ReAct operates as a network of regional nodes, each led by a Director and governed collectively through the ReAct’s Global Leadership Group.

ReAct Latin America

ReAct Latin America is one of four regional hubs and is today based in Cuenca, Ecuador, hosted by the Child to Child Foundation. It works in close partnership with Instituto Brasiliero de defesa do consumidor (IDEC) , University of Rosario in Argentina as well as other academic and civil society actors across the region. ReAct Latin America has for 20 years championed community-based approaches to promoting equitable access to antibiotics, has focused on changing paradigms around antibiotic use through innovative and often artistic approaches.

ReAct’s new strategic plan

In 2027 ReAct will start working under its new strategic plan that will allow both for a continuation of current activities according to ReAct Latin Americas strongly rooted principles and ways of working as well as developing into new areas of work and enter into new partnerships. In the coming years ReAct network will make going through several organizational changes that is relating to governance and organizational set up and it will be an important focus for the future director.

The future director will have the opportunity to gradually enter into the position through a long handover period with the current director and existing team.

Are you our new Director for Latin America?

As Director of ReAct Latin America, you set out the direction and have a strong strategic sense for how to best catalyze action on antibiotic resistance at different levels of society in the region, guided by a One Health approach. As part of ReAct’s Global Leadership Group, develop the strategic direction for the full network, and be part of ReAct’s organizational development aiming to ensure that ReAct continues to play a strategic role in global efforts to address antibiotic resistance in the future.

You will be managing a partly decentralized team and be responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of ReAct’s activities in the region, ensuring coherence of such activities with the work of the global network and with ReAct’s overarching strategic plan. Moreover, you are responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered within the specified time-frame and budget.

As Director, you will be responsible for budget, staff, reporting and administration as well as development of new partnerships and resource mobilization. You will liaise with a broad set of stakeholders including civil society organizations, regional and national governments and donors.

Main purpose of the position

The Director will be leading the strategic development and management of ReAct Latin America, providing leadership in strategy, programs, partnerships, staffing, and operations. The role ensures continuity of leadership and strengthens ReAct Latin Americas contribution to ReAct’s global mission. The director is a member of ReAct ‘s global leaders group with shared responsibility of ReAct’s strategic development, crisis management, planning and brand.

Responsibilities

Strategy, programs an knowledge

  • Support development and implementation of ReAct Latin America’s projects and activities according aligned with ReAct’s global strategic plan; for example through workplans and budget.
  • Lead and oversee planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of initiatives across communities, academia, and policy areas.
  • Work collectively develop the strategic direction of ReAct network.
  • Facilitate knowledge production, evidence synthesis, and communication efforts.
  • Be part of ReAct’s Global Leadership Group ,drive organizational and strategic development and actively contribute in other internal platforms and joint initiatives.

Partnerships, representation and advocacy

  • Strengthen regional partnerships with health professionals, communities, researchers, artists, ecologists, and civil society groups – key stakeholder groups in ReAct Latin America’s model.
  • Represent the ReAct Latin America in national, regional, and global AMR-related forums.
  • Represent ReAct in different forums; including both scientific conferences, high level meetings and policy forums.
  • Engage with ReAct’s Global Leadership Group and collaborate with other regional nodes.

Operations, finance, resource mobilization and leadership

  • Leading financial planning, budgeting, reporting and administrative oversight.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including donor engagement, proposal development and reporting, both for ReAct Latin America and the global network.
  • Ensure alignment with organizational policies and Code of ethics.
  • Strengthen internal coordination, communication, and work culture.
  • Manage and lead the work of the team; support in prioritization and delivery, oversee performance management and professional development.

Qualifications and competencies

Required qualifications and skills

  • Advanced degree in a Medical field, Public Health, Veterinary sciences, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences or another field related to ReAct’s mission.
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in the AMR-field.
  • Experience from management, budgeting, human resources and project management and donor liaison work.
  • Experience in Latin American contexts and in roles involving leadership, program management, and policy engagement.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the work of ReAct Latin America – its trajectory, approach, projects, and publications – preferably with some prior connection to ReAct Latin America activities or projects.
  • Strong understanding and interest in community-based approaches, and multi-sectoral collaboration and a strong understanding of the role of engaging social movement related to health, the environment, and/or food justice.
  • Fluency in Spanish; strong English and Portuguese proficiency preferred.

Location and contract details

Location: Different locations and modalities in the Latin America region could be considered.
Full-time role, terms determined by the hosting institution and ReAct Global Leadership group.
